The Minnesota Wild extended it’s win streak to seven games with an overtime win over the Coyotes, 4-3 Wednesday night at the Xcel Energy Center.
Goals from Torrey Mitchell and Matt Cullen gave the Wild a 2-0 lead a little more than five minutes into the second period. Cullen remains a scoring threat every time he steps on the ice. The veteran forward has 14 points in his last 14 games (3 goals, 11 assists).
Phoenix, a team that had been shutout in three of its last four road games, rallied for three straight goals to take a one goal lead. It held the lead until Ryan Suter tied the game with a wrist shot with 55 seconds left in regulation.
A cross-checking penalty on Phoenix gave the Wild a man-advantage just 35 seconds into overtime, and seconds after the penalty expired, Mikko Koivu walked in front of the net and pounded in the game-winning goal.
