Barring Kevin Love’s stiff neck becoming a bigger issue, the Wolves forward will participate in the three-point contest All-Star weekend.
TNT announced Love as a participant in the event he won in 2012 Thursday night prior to their doubleheader of game action.
Along with Love, seven others will vie for the crown: San Antonio’s Marco Belinelli, Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal of Washington, Brooklyn’s Joe Johnson, Orlando’s Arron Afflalo, and most notably, Golden State’s Steph Curry, who Minnesota passed on in the 2009 NBA Draft in favor of Jonny Flynn and Ricky Rubio.
Love did not defend his contest crown in 2013 because of a broken hand that sidelined him for the second half of the 2012-13 season.
The Wolves forward missed Wednesday’s loss to Oklahoma City because of this fall in Tuesday’s win over the Lakers. The injury is not thought of as serious, but with it coming so close to the contest (Thursday marks nine days until the shootout), nothing can be assured at this point.
Love is shooting 37 percent this year from deep, identical to his three-point percentage from 2011-12, when he won the contest.
