The celebrity All-Star game that takes place during Major League Baseball’s actual-baseball-players All-Star festivities is a tradition … pretty much like a lot of others. But hey, the first wave of participants was announced, and it’s dotted with some big Minnesota names.
Leading the way on the Taco Bell Legends & Celebrity Softball Game rosters is a quartet of Minnesota’s elite athletes: Kevin Love, Maya Moore, Zach Parise and Adrian Peterson.
“I am very excited to represent the Timberwolves in the [game]” Love told Timberwolves.com. “Thank you to Taco Bell and Major League Baseball for the opportunity and I look forward to joining my fellow Minnesota athletes at Target Field for what will be a fun weekend.”
Former Twins Jack Morris and Jim Thome are also in the lineup.
Joining the athletes on the roster will be actor Jon Hamm, best known for his role as Don Draper on “Mad Men.” He’s also in the baseball movie “Million Dollar Arm,” and as a St. Louis native is a well-known devout Cardinals fan. Plus, as MLB.com notes, whoever gets Hamm could be in a good spot, considering he whacked a home run to dead center in the 2012 game.
Minnesota native Andrew Zimmern, best known as a general foodie and host of “Bizarre Foods,” is slated to participate. As is “Desperate Housewives” actor James Denton, who lives in Chanhassen with his Minnesota-raised wife (and has appeared in every celebrity All-Star softball game since its inception in 2005).
MLB.com says more announcements regarding rosters will be out in the future. The game will be played at Target Field on Sunday, July 13, immediately follow the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Tickets for the celebrity All-Star contest can be purchased at allstargame.com.
The All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 15.
