The second quarter of Saturday’s college football game between the Gophers and Illinois turned scary when one of the Fighting Illini players was carted off on a stretcher after a vicious hit by a Gophers defensive back.
Minnesota’s Duke McGhee was ejected from the game after being called for a targeting penalty when the crown of his helmet connected with Illinois receiver Malik Turner’s helmet on a passing play over the middle of the field. Here’s the video of the collision.

Turner was moving his extremities and he had his hands over his face as he was carted to the locker room.

Minnesota’s Jack Lynn is suspended for the first half against Illinois after he was called for targeting against Rutgers. The Gophers have been flagged five times for targeting this season. Three of the targeting fouls occurred in Minnesota’s season opener against Oregon State.
