The Minnesota Wild fell to the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 in 3-on-3 overtime Friday night at Staples Center. Minnesota still got one point in the loss, but lost on Anze Kopitar’s game winner in the extra frame.
1. Kuemper under siege
Darcy Kuemper made his first start in goal of the season, and he did his part and then some to keep the Wild in the game. The Wild were outshot 32-16 through the first two periods, and Kuemper stopped all but one of the shots.
He finished the night with 35 saves on 37 shots.

2. Taking advantage of the advantage
The Wild now have a power play goal in all four games this season. Minnesota’s power play goal on Friday night came at an important time.
Early in the third with the Wild down 1-0, Mikko Koivu put home his second goal of the season on a beautifully executed power play for the Wild.

3. First look at 3-on-3 ot
Unfortunately Minnesota’s first attempt at 3-on-3 overtime hockey didn’t go their way, but it made for an exciting finish.
Both teams had chances, but the Wild failed on two very strong scoring chances to win the game.
