New Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin can’t wait to play with Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love.
“After playing with Kevin Durant and Russell (Westbrook), I wasn’t going to another team without a superstar,” Martin told CBS Minnesota. “It just elevates your game and makes your life a lot easier.”
Martin came off the bench in Oklahoma City last season, where Durant and Westbrook provided a championship caliber mentality, and Martin feels he can teach the Wolves how to think the same way.
“I learned from Oklahoma CIty, they’re a great organization,” Martin said, according to Pro Basketball Talk. “The way KD and Russ approach the game, I think that’s something I’ll bring to Minnesota.”
The Thunder reached the NBA Finals two seasons ago, and might have been good enough to return to the Finals last season if not for an injury to Westbrook.
The Timberwolves’ starting lineup has a chance to be very good next season, especially if they are able to re-sign Nikola Pekovic, which should happen soon according to team owner Glen Taylor.
Check out the possible starting lineup with Pekovic.
- Point guard: Ricky Rubio
- Shooting guard: Kevin Martin
- Small forward: Corey Brewer/Chase Budinger
- Power forward: Kevin Love
- Center: Nikola Pekovic
