Kevin Fiala has been putting up the kind of numbers that turn doubters into believers, and he’s done enough in the past week to get the NHL’s attention as he’s been named the league’s First Star of the Week.
The Wild won three of four games in the past week and Fiala had multiple points in all of them, racking up four goals and five assists. His nine points were the most in the NHL last week.
He’s the first Wild player in more than a decade to have four straight multi-point games, and just the third in team history. Marian Gaborik did it in 2006-07 and 2007-08, and Brian Rolston accomplished the feat in 2005-06.
Really, last week was a continuation of Fiala’s red-hot play. He has 11 goals and 10 assists in his last 15 games, essentially making him a one-man wrecking crew since the beginning of February.
Fiala is still only 23 years old and if he continues playing the way he has for a month, he could make for a dynamite 1-2 punch with super prospect Kirill Kaprizov next season.
