While rumors and speculations are spiraling that Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns might be named Rookie of the Year (he has collected six straight Rookie of the Month Awards, after all) another dream-come-true for the basketball sensation might be in the works.
THR reported that after years of rumors, production for “Space Jam 2” is moving forward.
Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (recently a breakout comedy star in the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck) will star in the sequel to the live-action/animated 1996 hit, which made $230.4 million worldwide.
The first movie starred Michael Jordan as he teamed up with several Looney Tunes characters to play a game of basketball, which just so happens to be loved by Towns.
Towns has previously stated that the original “Space Jam” is his favorite movie in an interview with GQ.
When a reporter in Kentucky asked, Towns said he would “absolutely” be in the movie if given the chance, giving the pitch that he would basically play anyone.
“My pitch is ‘Put me as the blue guy.’ Put me as the blue guy,” Towns said. “I’ll be the big, tall, I’ll be Shawn Bradley, the new one, I don’t care. I love that movie … You can put me as Mugsy Bouges for all I care, just put my face on top, I don’t care.”
We will find out if Towns will become the next Hollywood star when the film is released, currently to-be-determined.
