One of Minnesota’s top freshman from the 2022-23 men’s basketball team is leaving via the transfer portal. Jaden Henley, a 6-foot-7 guard, announced Monday that he’s decided to enter the portal and look for a new college home.
“After talking with my family, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal and find a new home to continue my academic and athletic career. I look forward to the next step in my journey,” Henley said.

Henley averaged just 5.3 points and 2.2 rebounds per game this season, but he played big minutes as a true freshman and was key in Minnesota’s Big Ten tournament win over Nebraska, when he scored 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
It’s unclear where Henley is interested in transferring, but it’s worth noting that he is friends with Dennis Evans, the 5-star recruit from California who originally signed a letter of intent to join Henley in Minnesota only to back out recently and commit to Louisville.
With Evans backing out, Henley transferring and Jamison Battle and Ta’lon Cooper expected to explore pro basketball opportunities, Minnesota is entering the 2023-24 season down three starters and their top recruit.
Needless to day, head coach Ben Johnson and the Gophers have some work to do in the transfer portal to put together a competitive roster for next season.
