The Houston Aeros are moving to Iowa.
In a vote approved by the American Hockey League’s Board of Governors, the Wild’s AHL affiliate will be playing in Des Moines, Iowa next season.
The team will be renamed the Iowa Wild. It’s home rink will be the Wells Fargo Arena.
According to the Pioneer Press, the current home of the Aeros, the Toyota Center in Houston, decided it could make more money hosting concerts and other events rather than minor league hockey.
The new arena in Des Moines will charge the Wild $10,000 per game rent. It’s a major reduction from the $24,000 per game the Aeros were paying in Houston. To stay in Houston, the Toyota Center was asking the Aeros to increase it’s per game rent to $42,000.
