It’s a passing league in today’s NFL. That means it’s REALLY important to have a good passing defense.
The Vikings have a REALLY bad passing defense. They’re ranked last in the NFL and they’re allowing 326 yards per game through the air.
Look at the damage the following quarterbacks have done against the Purple’s passive pass defense.
- Week 1, Matt Stafford: 357 yards, 2 TD
- Week 2, Jay Cutler: 292 yards, 3 TD
- Week 3, Brian Hoyer: 321 yards, 3 TD
- Week 4, Ben Roethlisberger: 383 yards, 1 TD
The list of quarterbacks they still have to defend is intimidating (and it doesn’t include Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Drew Brees): Cam Newton, Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers (twice), Tony Romo, Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson, Cutler again, Joe Flacco, Michael Vick, Andy Dalton, and Stafford one more time.
Could Antoine Winfield return to Minnesota to help save a struggling secondary? Leslie Frazier hasn’t shut the door on the idea.
“We’ve talked about a lot of things,” Frazier said when asked about the possibility of bringing back Winfield, according to the Star Tribune. “We’ve got a little beaten up in the secondary. We knew going in we’d have some new guys playing some positions where there would be some growing pains along the way and we’re experiencing some of that. But we’ve got to keep bringing them along and keep hoping that they’ll improve, which they are. They are improving in some areas. This bye week should help us but we’ve talked about a lot of things and ways that we can try and help our secondary.”
Good news, though, with the possibility of two starters returning from injury when the Vikings play Carolina in week six.
Leslie Frazier said Chris Cook and Jamarca Sanford appear on track to return next week.
