Earlier this week Mike Zimmer provided hope for Harrison Smith to return form an ankle injury. Alas, that hope is dead.
Smith will miss a second straight game Sunday against the Colts and there’s no timetable in place for his return. Anthony Harris will likely start at free safety in his place.
Right guard Brandon Fusco and cornerback Trae Waynes are also out with concussions. Rookie receiver Laquon Treadwell won’t play, either (ankle).
Running back Matt Asiata (ankle/illness), center Joe Berger (concussion) and cornerback Mackensie Alexander (abdomen) are questionable.
If Berger doesn’t play the Vikings will only have one of their original starting five offensive linemen in the game: Alex Boone.
The Colts’ official injury report has not come out yet but head coach Chuck Pagano has already ruled wide receiver Donte Moncrief out. He’s Andrew Luck’s favorite red zone target and leads the Colts with six touchdown receptions.
