The Twins couldn’t pull out a win with Indians pitcher Danny Salazar on the mound. In his first game of the season, Salazar matched a career-high 10 strikeouts. The Indians took the 4-2 win Saturday at Target Field, ending the Twins’ three-game winning streak.
Salazar struck out eight of the first 12 batters he faced, WCCO reports.
The Indians went on the board first, scoring in the third inning. Minnesota tied it up in the bottom of the inning with Torii Hunter getting the RBI on a double. It looked liked a homer, but the ball bounced off the wall, MLB.com reports.
Cleveland pulled ahead in the fourth, then scored two more in the seventh.
Twins starting pitcher Phil Hughes (0-3) was pulled from the mound in the seventh after giving up three runs to four batters.
Reliever Caleb Thielbar took over, allowing the final Indian run.
Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki lead off with a homer in the seventh, getting the final run of the game.
The Twins finish off the series against the Indians at 1:10 p.m. Sunday at Target Field. Trevor May is the starting pitcher.
