A pair of Gopher basketball players were honored by the Big Ten Monday.
Gopher men’s basketball player Andre Hollins was named the Big Ten Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Hollins had a big week for the Gophers. He knocked down a career high seven three-pointers while scoring 27 points and grabbing seven rebounds in Minnesota’s road win at Wake Forest as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Hollins was again in double figures with 15 points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal in a victory over Western Carolina on Friday.
It’s the second time Hollins has won the award in his career, the first since Nov. 26, 2012. He’s the Gophers scoring leader, averaging 14.0 points per game.
Banham receives weekly B1G recognition
Rachel Banham was named to the Big Ten Women’s Baketball Player of the Week Honor Roll, Monday. She averaged 28.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in Minnesota’s wins over North Carolina State and Butler last week.
Sunday night, Banham scored a season-high 35 points and connected on five three-pointers, including one that tied the game with 4.9 seconds to play. She also became Minnesota’s career record holder for three-pointers. Banham added six assists and six rebounds in the victory over Butler.

Banham had 21 points, including three three-pointers, a season-high nine rebounds and three steals on the road at NC State.
Rutgers’ Betnijah Laney was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, Illinois’ Ivory Crawford and Michigan’s Shannon Smith joined Banham on the honor roll.
The Gophers are back in action against North Dakota Wednesday night in Grand Forks.
