Happy holidays to you and yours and welcome to the sports version of 12 Days of Christmas.
Instead of using gifts, we’re using the ever-popular GIFS. You know, those animated clips that highlight the best few seconds of a video. The sports world was filled with dramatic, painful and humorous GIFS this year, and we’ll unveil one new GIF every day between now and Christmas.

On the first day of Christmas the sports world gave to me, a GIF of Big Papi going batty. Former Twins slugger David Ortiz took what he thought was a ball on a 3-0 count, and instead of walking the pitch was called strike. The at-bat didn’t go Ortiz’s way as he eventually struck out. The end result was this.
On the second day of Christmas the sports world gave to me, a vicious elbow to a girl’s cheek. The girls below were at a big softball game between LSU and Tennessee, and a friendly attempt to get in the spotlight didn’t go so well for the girl in the blue shirt.
