After going winless in his first 17 big league starts, Liam Hendriks finally earned a win as he led the Twins over the Indians, 6-4 Wednesday night. Hendriks held Cleveland to two runs and two hits over six innings.
The Twins pounded out 12 hits in the game. Josh Willingham led the way going 4-4 with 4 RBI. He also hit his team-leading 35th home run of the season. It’s the first time a Twins player has hit 35 home runs in a season in 42 years. The last to do it was Harmen Killebrew, who hit 41 in 1970.
Minnesota can sweep the series with a win Thursday. Esmerling Vazquez starts for the Twins — first pitch at 11:05 a.m. If the Twins win, they’ll guarantee a season without 100 losses. The worst they could do is 63-99 — the same record they finished with last season.
