Former Vikings linebacker Erin Henderson is hoping to return to the only NFL team he has ever played for.
Henderson, 27, played for the Vikings the past six years, and started the last three. He was released by the Vikings on Feb. 7 shortly after he was arrested for his second drunken driving arrest in a month and half.
Now, according to the Pioneer Press, he is hopeful for an opportunity to return to the Vikings.
“I completely understood where the organization was coming from and what they needed to do for themselves moving forward, Henderson told the newspaper.
Henderson told the Pioneer Press that shortly before he was released that Vikings general manager Rick Spielman told him “there was that window of opportunity” for him to return.
Henderson was arrested on Nov. 19 for DWI, he faced charges of DWI and marijuana possession from the incident. He was arrested again for DWI on Jan. 1.
After going through a 30-day treatment program, and getting his legal issues behind him, Henderson told the Pioneer Press he is enjoying the sober life.
He told the newspaper he is not close to signing with any team yet, but he remains hopeful for an opportunity.
If not the Vikings, there may be some other opportunities for Henderson.
One of them may have just come up recently. Dallas’ inside linebacker Sean Lee could miss time with a knee injury, that could be one team interested in Henderson. Dallas appears willing to try and fill the void with in house candidates right now, though.

But Henderson believes some teams may be hesitant to take a look at him, because they are unsure what punishment he may face from the league.
“I feel 100 percent healthy, no bumps or bruises,” Henderson told the Pioneer Press. “With my body of work that I’ve done in this league, I’ll definitely be playing in the league (next season).”
