Hall of Famer and Twins legend Rod Carew will make his first trip to Target Filed on July 3 since undergoing a successful heart transplant last December.
Carew, accompanied by his wife Rhonda, will throw out the first pitch. He’ll be dressed in a throwback home jersey from the 1977 season – the same year Carew won the MVP and was featured on TIME Magazine after flirting with a .400 batting average.
The first 10,000 fans will receive a poster commemorating Carew.
Additionally, the Carews will return to Minnesota on Friday, August 19 for the Twins Hall of Fame and Donor Day at Target Field.
Carew recently joined a Twins broadcast when Minnesota was in Los Angeles and opened up about his heart transplant, which came from former NFL Tight End Konrad Reuland.
It turned out Carew and Reuland’s paths had crossed before. When Reuland was a child, he met Carew at his elementary school, and the meet and greet left a lasting impression on the former NFL player.
