Chad Greenway’s iron man run as a linebacker in the NFL will come to an end when the Vikings and Falcons meet this Sunday at TCF Bank Stadium. Greenway is listed as “out” on the official injury report.
Last week, Greenway played through a broken hand, but a broken rib is too much to overcome.
“It’s fairly indescribable, to be honest with you,” said Greenway, describing his broken rib, according to the Star Tribune. “Anybody who’s had a [broken] rib before, much respect.”
His absence will put an end to two impressive streaks.
- 90 consecutive games started
- 115 consecutive games played
According to the Pioneer Press, Greenway’s 90 straight starts is the longest streak among active NFL linebackers.

The Star Tribune says head coach Mike Zimmer needed to see Greenway practice today in order to activate him for Sunday’s game.

Second year outside linebacker Gerald Hodges will start in his place.
“I’ve been waiting for this time for a long time,” Hodges said Thursday, via the Star Tribune. “It’s no knock on Chad. I hope he’s fine and everything. And I know he’ll be fine. Everything I’ve learned here, I’ve learned the majority of that through him in the meeting room and just picking his brain and seeing how he works. That helps me a lot to get me ready to play.”
