“I think we can already say this one bit the dust.”
That’s the quote from Grantland.com’s Bill Simmons when he started talking about the upcoming 2014-15 season for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Simmons and former NBA star Jalen Rose are on the same page that the Wolves are going to have a bad year.
Simmons and Rose agree on the opinion that the Wolves are simply too young to compete, and the lack of veteran leadership on the team will slow the growth of Andrew Wiggins, the No. 1 pick in the most recent NBA Draft.
Best case scenario for Wiggins? Tracy McGrady, according to Rose.
What else to watch for? They believe the Wolves will be featured in a ton of trade rumors, specifically focused on players like Nikola Pekovic, Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger and Anthony Bennett. Budinger’s name has already been mentioned in trade rumors.
Ricky Rubio is searching for a new contract extension from the Wolves, but Rose said he’s done with Rubio. Simmons, meanwhile, still has faith in Rubio becoming a better point guard.
Simmons closed the segment by making a joke about the Timberwolves being headed for the NBA Draft Lottery again.
“Sorry Timberwolf fans, another one bit the dust,” Simmons said. “You’re headed for another lottery. Instead of renting a hotel all the time – at the lottery – you should just buy a condo. It makes more tax sense.”

Vegas Insider set the over/under win total for the Wolves at 25 1/2, and predicted them to finish in last place in the Northwest Division.
The Wolves open the season Oct. 29 at the Memphis Grizzlies.
