Gophers vault to No. 7 in both major college football polls

An upset victory over Penn State on Saturday has vaulted the Gophers to No. 7 in both major college football polls released Sunday. 

Minnesota jumped up six spots from last week’s No. 13 ranking in both the AP Top-25 Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll. It’s their highest ranking in the coaches poll since USA Today began releasing it in 1991. 

Coaches Poll – Top 10:

2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Alabama
5. Georgia
6. Oregon
7. Minnesota 
8. Oklahoma
9. Utah
10. Baylor

AP Poll – Top 10:

1. LSU
2. Ohio State
3. Clemson
4. Alabama
5. Georgia
6. Oregon
7. Minnesota
8. Utah
9. Penn State
10. Oklahoma

The poll that matters most is the College Football Playoff rankings, which had the Gophers 17th this past week. The new poll will be released at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
