The Golden Gophers gave coach Tubby Smith his 500th career victory Saturday night in Los Angeles with a convincing 71-57 victory over USC, the Star Tribune reported.
Smith joined the Gophers as head coach in 2007 and has led the team to two NCAA tournament bids.
Rodney Williams was tops for the Gophers with 13 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Trevor Mbakwe, who scored 12 and pulled down four.
Omar Oraby led the Trojans with 15 points and four rebounds.
The win boosts the No. 14 Gophers to 10-1 as they head home to Williams Arena to take on North Dakota State on Tuesday.
