The No. 16 Minnesota Golden Gopher men’s basketball team saw their road woes continue on Sunday afternoon as they fell to No. 5 Iowa 86-71 in Iowa City.
The Gophers and Hawkeyes battled throughout the first half with Iowa making their move early through Luka Garza. The star center put up 33 points on the afternoon and helped the Hawkeyes jump out to a lead that was as big as nine points in the first half.
Minnesota made its move behind their own star, Marcus Carr. The senior tied with Both Gach for a team-high 13 points to facilitate a 15-8 run to send the Gophers into the locker room down 39-37 at halftime.

But the Gophers’ road woes appeared in the second half as the Hawkeyes came out of halftime with a 22-4 run. While Iowa’s lead swelled to as much as 18 points, the Gophers came back thanks to a balanced effort that saw all four starters score in double figures.
Minnesota was able to trim the lead down to five points late, but Iowa was able to keep the Gophers at bay. With Jordan Bohannon (19 points, 14 rebounds) and Joe Wieskamp (20 points, six rebounds) scoring in double figures, Iowa pulled away and was able to capture the victory.
The Gophers (10-4, 3-4 Big Ten) will return to The Barn on Saturday when they host No. 10 Michigan.
