When Koi Perich announced “sign me up” in his commitment to the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team in April, he was choosing his home state team over offers from the likes of Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Washington and Wisconsin.
Still committed, the offers keep coming for Perich, including one from the Ohio State Buckeyes that Perich informed the world about on X Monday night. He’s also recently announced offers he’s received from Florida State and USC.
The 6-foot-1 safety from Esko High School in northern Minnesota is rated by 247Sports as a 4-star recruit who is No. 1 in Minnesota’s graduating Class of 2024 and 84th overall in the country.
In August, 247Sports included him on a list of the “10 biggest freaks” in the 2024 recruiting class.
This season, Perich has led Esko to a 10-0 record and a seat in the eight-team dance for the Class 3A state championship. Esko plays Annandale at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brainerd High School in the state quarterfinals.

The fact that more elite college football schools are recruiting him could mean nothing if Perich is set on playing for the Gophers, but he could still flip his commitment and choose to go elsewhere.
If he does wind up playing for the Gophers, he could be the next great safety to star in maroon and gold, following in the footsteps of Antoine Winfield Jr. and current Gopher Tyler Nubin.
