Sunday’s loss at Nebraska probably kept the Golden Gophers men’s basketball team out of the top 25 national rankings, but it didn’t push them too far out.
The latest Associated Press Top 25 poll doesn’t include Minnesota, but the Gophers are close behind, tied for 30th in the country. It’s a four way tie with Kansas State, George Washington and Wisconsin-Green Bay. Minnesota received five votes, according to the Pioneer Press.
Texas rounded out the top 25 with Connecticut, Gonzaga, UCLA and Virginia just ahead of the Gophers (15-6, 4-4).
Nebraska survived a furious second half rally by Minnesota, fueled by Malik Smith’s team-high 29 points. Smith tied Blake Hoffarber’s school record with eight 3-pointers in a single game. Before losing to the Cornhuskers, the Gophers pulled off an upset with a win over Wisconsin. The Badgers were ranked ninth at the time.
Five Big Ten teams made the rankings: Michigan State (7th), Michigan (10th), Wisconsin (14th), Iowa (5th) and Ohio State (24th)
The Gophers are currently fifth in the Big Ten.
