Gophers placeholder Casey O’Brien shared that he has beaten cancer for the fifth time, sharing the news during his final day of chemotherapy on Friday.

O’Brien was one of the best stories to come out of the Gopher football program last season, getting into multiple games despite his ongoing battle with osteosarcoma.
The junior learned of his condition when he was 13 and has since undergone a full left knee replacement, multiple lung surgeries, and several chemotherapy treatments.
Although he was cancer-free for nearly two years since his fourth round with the disease, it returned late last season forcing O’Brien to miss the Gophers matchup against Wisconsin in late November, but was able to return for the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1.
O’Brien’s story has also been a source of inspiration on a national level. O’Brien was an honorary speaker at the Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon prior to the 2019 season and was featured on ESPN’s College Gameday.
