The Minnesota Gophers used a fast start to skate past Penn State, 5-1 in a Big Ten hockey game at Mariucci Arena on Friday night.
It was the first game for Minnesota in nearly two weeks, but they didn’t let that slow them down.

The Gophers quickly shook off an early goal by Penn State’s Kenny Brooks to rally to score three unanswered goals in the first period.
The Gophers first line did a lot of damage in the game, according to the Star Tribune. Sam Warning, Hudson Fasching and Kyle Rau all had first period goals for Minnesota who quickly regained their footing to take a 3-1 lead.
Minnesota pushed the lead to 4-1 early in the second when Taylor Cammarata netted the even strength goal. Then later in the second, on the power play, Nate Condon scored for Minnesota to push the Gopher lead to 5-1.
Fasching finished with a goal and an assist on the night.
Gopher goaltender Adam Wilcox was solid in net, stopping 30 shots. It was a big performance for the Gopher sophomore, earlier Friday he was named one of the 19 candidates in the nation for the Richter Award. The award is given to the nation’s top goaltender.
