The Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team has announced three alternate captains for the 2015-16 season.
Head coach Don Lucia announced Tuesday that Connor Reilly, Hudson Fasching and Jake Bischoff will serve as alternate captains alongside captain Justin Kloos.
All three alternate captains are Minnesota natives. Reilly hails from Chanhassen, Fasching is from Burnsville and Bischoff from Grand Rapids.
Reilly has tallied 28 points (17 goals, 11 assists) in 61 games for the Gophers – including career bests with 11 goals and 16 points last season before his season ended early because of an injury last season. His family has strong connections to the maroon & gold – his father Mike played for the Gophers from 1979-81 and Conner is one of five siblings to play hockey at the U of M.
Fasching has tallied 56 points (26 goals, 30 assists) in 78 career games in Minnesota. He tallied 26 points for the Gophers last season as a sophomore.
As a freshman he was named to the All Big Ten Rookie Team, and also played for the U.S. Junior National Team the last two seasons.
Bischoff is a junior who set new career highs in points last season with 11, and assists with eight. His father (Grant) also played for the Gophers from 1988-91 tallying 161 points in 180 games.
The 2015-16 season marks the 95th season of Gophers hockey. The Gophers open the season Oct. 10 against Vermont.
