Despite solid results at the North Star College Cup over the weekend, Minnesota-Duluth couldn’t crack the USCHO.com Top 20 this week, falling 66 points short of being ranked for the first time this year.
UMD beat Minnesota State in their first game of the tournament at the Xcel Energy Center, and Saturday officially tied the Gophers, though they would lose in a shootout, a step needed to determine the North Star Cup champion.
The win and tie leaves them 22nd in the country, second in the receiving votes category of the poll.
Despite tying UMD, the Gophers remain No. 1 in the nation, garnering 44 of the 50 first-place votes in the rankings, the other six going to No. 2 Boston College.
St. Cloud State, who fell to the Gophers 4-1 Friday and bounced back Saturday with a 6-4 win over Minnesota State, remain fifth in the poll.
Minnesota State received one vote for the poll despite finishing fourth in the four-team tournament, leaving them tied for 28th in the country.
