We’re not huge on constant Gopher recruiting updates, but a highly sought after name that just so happens to be a position player committing to Minnesota qualifies as news, even for us.
The Gophers secured the services of Melvin Holland Jr. late Monday night, a three-star recruit from Briar Woods High School in Virginia.
Holland Jr. had also received offers from Wisconsin, soon-to-be Big Ten member Rutgers, Boston College and Wake Forest.
The 6’3″, 190 lb. senior runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, and caught 17 touchdowns this year.
Minnesota also received a commitment from Jared Weyler Monday, an offensive lineman from Ohio that previously had committed to Bowling Green.
Weyler is a two-star recruit who also had an offer from Miami (Ohio).
