Minnesota Gophers defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun was named the Big Ten’s co-Defensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in Minnesota’s come-from-behind, 28-24 win at Nebraska on Saturday.
Boddy-Calhoun made the play of the game when he stripped the ball from a Cornhusker receiver with 1:19 to play in the game. Nebraska’s De’Mornay Pierson-El was called for illegal touching on the play, but the Gophers declined the penalty thanks to the win-clinching turnover.
“That’s as good a football play as I’ve seen in a long time,” Gophers coach Jerry Kill said, via the Star Tribune. “It just comes down to him wanting the ball more than that kid did. It’s unbelievable. It really is.”

Boddy-Calhoun is the third Gopher to win a defensive player of the week award this season. Linebacker Damien Wilson and safety Cedric Thompson are the others, as noted by GopherSports.com.
