After a spirited 40-minute effort yesterday against No. 8 Syracuse, the Gopher men’s basketball team fell flat against Arkansas in the second half Tuesday, losing 87-73.
The Gophers were up by five heading into halftime after closing the first 20 minutes on a 9-1 run, but things would unravel in the second half, as Arkansas opened the final period on a 15-4 run, including a stretch in which they made six straight field goals.
The Razorbacks would shoot 16-of-27 in the second session, nearly 60 percent, while outrebounding the Gophers 33-27 in the game.
After picking up 16 assists on 23 field goals yesterday, Minnesota was out-assisted 19-10 Tuesday, and allowed Arkansas to make 55 percent of their field goals to Minnesota’s 45.
Andre Hollins had a poor day, making just 2-of-9 field goal attempts, while Maurice Walker played sparingly in his return from a six-game suspension, scoring one point.
The Gophers will face the loser of Gonzaga and Chaminade in their Maui Invitational finale tomorrow.
