Former Gophers guard Ben Johnson has officially signed on as an assistant under new Minnesota basketball head coach Rich Pitino.
Johnson tells the Pioneer Press that he “wanted to be there under a great guy who I have full belief in.”
Johnson played his high school basketball at DeLaSalle and played for the Gophers from 2002-2004.
In a statement, Pitino spoke highly of Johnson.
“In addition to being a proud Minnesota alum, he brings the work ethic I am looking for and a knowledge of the university, the Midwest and the Big Ten Conference.”
Johnson was an assistant coach under Tim Miles at Nebraska last season.
