The Gopher women’s basketball team couldn’t keep up with Northwestern Sunday on the road, even with double-digit scoring from Carlie Wagner and Amanda Zahui B. The Gophers lost 70-49.
Zahui had a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Wagner put up 14 points. According to Gopher Sports, it was Zahui’s 16th double-double this season, and Wagner has scored double-digit points for five games straight. She also hit a career-high with four three-pointers.
The Gophers had the makings of a good start, making six three-pointers in the first half. But they couldn’t get into a groove inside the arc, and ended the game shooting only 17-of-58 from the field.
Northwestern went into halftime with a 37-27 lead. Minnesota couldn’t pick up the momentum in the second half and at one point was down by 22 points.
The Gophers travel to Illinois Thursday night.
