Like the Gopher men’s basketball team on Sunday, the Gopher women found out Monday evening that a 20-win season just wasn’t enough to earn a spot in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Pam Borton’s squad finished the season strong winning seven of their final 10 games, to close out the season with a 20-13 record. They picked up a first round Big Ten Tournament win against Wisconsin 74-68 in overtime.
Their run in Indianapolis ended with a loss to Nebraska in the quarterfinals 80-67.
The Gophers finished sixth in the Big Ten, but the Star Tribune reports the selection committee picked only five conference schools – Penn State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Iowa and Purdue.

According to the Star Tribune, it appears the Gophers are headed to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament for the second straight season and for the third time in Borton’s 11 seasons as the head coach.
The Gophers will take on Wisconsin-Green Bay in the opening round of the WNIT Tournament on Wednesday night.
