The Gopher men’s basketball team will lend a helping hand to the country of Puerto Rico next month.
Minnesota will host the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for an exhibition game on Nov. 5, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
The U of M has played in two tournaments in Puerto Rico over the past four years and head coach Richard Pitino says he’s hoping for a high turnout at Williams Arena.
“Hopefully our fans’ generosity and caring spirit will show on November 5,” said Pitino. “I am really looking forward to this day – we need to pack the Pav.”
Tickets for the game are $10, according to GopherSports.com, with season ticket holders having access to a special presale on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 9 a.m.
NCAA rules allow for two exhibition games per year, but Division 1 schools are allowed to have a third game to raise money for areas affected by hurricanes in the United States and Caribbean.
Schools such as Kansas, Missouri, Notre Dame and Baylor have made arrangements to play in games to aid relief efforts.
Tip-off between the two school will be at noon on Nov. 5.
