The Gopher men’s and women’s hockey teams both had winning weekends – sweeping their respective opponents. The Gopher men defeated Bemidji State 5-3 Saturday night, and the women completed their sweep of UND with a 5-0 victory Saturday.

The Gopher men got their first sweep of the season as they defeated Bemidji State 5-3 Saturday night at Mariucci Arena.
Kyle Rau scored his 50th career goal in the game, according to GopherSports.com. Goals also came from Justin Kloos, Connor Reilly and Travis Boyd, who scored the game winner on a power play in the third period.
Brad Skjei added an empty-net goal with 18 seconds left in the third for his first goal of the season. Minnesota outshot the Beavers 30-22. Goalie Adam Wilcox had 19 saves and got his fourth victory of the season, according to GopherSports.com.
Minnesota (4-0-0 overall, 0-0-0-0 Big Ten) remains undefeated. The Gophers play a non conference home-and-home series against St. Cloud State next weekend.
Gopher women vs. UND
The Gopher women’s hockey team completed a two-game sweep of WCHA rivals the University of North Dakota, with a 5-0 win Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena, according to GopherSports.com. Minnesota’s offense was overpowering with 51 shots on goal, compared to just seven for North Dakota.
The Gophers scored early in the game with a goal by Hannah Brandt with just 3:21 gone by in the first period. She also scored another goal in the third period and had three assists to lead Minnesota ( 7-0-1, 5-0-1-0 WCHA) to the win.
Maryanne Menefee also scored goals in the first and third frames, and Milica McMillen scored in the second period, according to GopherSports.com.
Minnesota defeated North Dakota 5-2 on Friday night.
The Gophers resume play next weekend with a home series against Bemidji State.
