The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team has a big matchup with Michigan on Saturday night, but they have already declared an early-morning victory on the recruiting trail.
Four-star defensive tackle Jacob Schuster is the latest recruit to join the Gophers after announcing his commitment on Saturday morning. Schuster becomes the seventh four-star recruit to commit to the Gophers for the 2021 class.

Schuster checks in at 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds and was listed as the 20th ranked defensive tackle by 247sports. Recruiting editor Brandon Huffman also described Schuster as a future starter and potential NFL Draft pick.
“Schuster plays with a high motor, with good leverage and a quick first step off the line,” Huffman said via Gopher Illustrated’s Ryan Burns. “[He] excels in run defense especially against single blocks and can both clog the lanes against doubles to make space for linebackers to get to the quarterback while also generating a good push and burst to get to the passer on his own.”
The addition of Schuster adds some more firepower to a recruiting class that is ranked 24th in the nation and sixth in the Big Ten. With the Gophers having a national stage to promote their program on Saturday, there’s a chance there could be a final push before signing day in November.
