Richard Pitino made it clear last week that Gopher basketball will not partake in midnight madness, a tradition at many schools on the first day of basketball practice.
Today, the “creative ways” Pitino was looking to explore that would involve an opening week kickoff and be open to the public were revealed.
Pitino said rather than midnight madness, Minnesota will host a first-look scrimmage at 7 p.m. Oct. 18, entitled “Raise The Barn.”
The event will feature a game between the 2013-14 roster, with maroon and gold teams being announced at a later date.
The Gophers open the regular season Nov. 8 against Lehigh, who pulled this shocker two NCAA tournaments ago.
