As many as 12,000 engraved bricks will greet visitors who enter the giant pivoting glass doors of the new Vikings stadium when it opens in 2016.
These “legacy bricks” went on sale in March and fans were allowed to purchase them for between $160 to $360.
A group of NFL fans on the popular social networking site Reddit decided to have some fun with this, actually purchasing a commemorative brick that had the following inscribed:
“IN COMMEMORATION OF BRETT FAVRE A VIKING FOREVER -/R/NFL”
The group that pooled money together to buy the brick all subscribe to a subReddit called “/r/NFL,” where they can post messages, stories and pictures, and reply to one another.
If you’ll recall, when the bricks went on sale in March, the Twittersphere exploded with fake brick designs that were largely sarcastic and humorous, referencing the Vikings’ historical big-game failures and recent playoff-free seasons.

According to the Business Journal, 4-by-8-inch bricks with three lines of text were sold for $160. An 8-by-8-inch brick with six lines sold for $295. The Vikings logo could also have been added for an additional $65.
Proceeds from the bricks will help enhance the plaza outside the stadium.
Another group of Vikings fans who socialize on a subReddit called “/r/MinnesotaVikings” purchased a brick. Here’s a photo of their certificate of ownership.
The Star Tribune notes the slabs were made by the Cold Spring Granite Company.
