Jerry Kill isn’t saying a freshman quarterback at the University of Minnesota can play like Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, but Kill is comparing a freshman quarterback’s demeanor to Bridgewater’s.
Cool. Calm. Collected. That’s Bridgewater, and Kill believes Demry Croft has similar traits.
After throwing a touchdown pass in a scrimmage last Saturday, Kill was impressed with how calm the freshman quarterback remained: “I said shoot, ‘That’s like [Teddy] Bridgewater,'”, Kill said, according to the Star Tribune.
Croft, a true freshman from a Illinois, has been good enough in preseason practice that the Gophers aren’t ruling out the possibility of him winning the backup quarterback job behind starter Mitch Leidner, the Pioneer Press reports.
Marcus Fuller writes:
“Croft has exceeded expectations during fall practices. He has a presence in the huddle. He doesn’t get overly critical after mistakes. He throws a mean deep ball.”

Also in the mix for the No. 2 QB job are sophomore Chris Streveler and redshirt freshman Jacques Perra, who grew up in the Twin Cities playing football at Roseville High School.
