EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier isn’t backing down. He’s defending Sunday’s offensive game plan, despite seeing his team settle for three field goals on three trips into the Washington Redskins’ red zone in the first quarter alone.
The Vikings got off to a 9-0 lead, but it was quickly erased when the Redskins dominated the second quarter, en route to a 36-28 win.
In his Monday news conference at Winter Park, Frazier told reporters, “We thought we had a good plan. They (Washington) did a good job keeping us out of the end zone.”
But that doesn’t mean the Vikings won’t work to figure out how to get the job done next time. “When that happens, you look at everything,” Frazier said. “We really stress not kicking field goals. It didn’t happen, so yes, we’re going to go through everything with a fine-toothed comb.
“We thought we had some good things in play, but they were pretty disciplined in what they were doing.”
On other subjects, Frazier said wide receiver Jerome Simpson might be in the lineup against Arizona Sunday.
“He feels like he’ll be ready to go. We’ll see how it goes this week.”
On criticism that Percy Harvin might be overworked: “We’ll always be conscious of how we use him. We are … mindful of what we’re asking him to do. What’s best for our team is to have Percy on the field.”
