Former Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel has a new home. Cassel was traded Tuesday to the Dallas Cowboys following the injury to Dallas starter Tony Romo.
According to ESPN, the Cowboys acquired Cassel and Buffalo’s 2017 seventh-round pick, in exchange for Dallas’ fifth rounder in 2017.

Romo is expected to miss seven games after breaking his clavicle Sunday – the injury will not require surgery though. He was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and is eligible to return on Nov. 22.
Cassel, who was traded from the Vikings to Buffalo in the offseason, was brought in after Dallas worked out several other options at quarterback to either compete with Brandon Weeden or start following Romo’s injury.
In addition to Ponder, Johnson, Flynn, Cowboys also worked out QB McLeod Bethel Thompson, per source.

Cassel began last season as the Vikings starting quarterback but suffered a season-ending foot injury during the Vikings third game of the year.
It had been a tumultuous offseason for Cassel, who was traded to the Bills for a chance to start, but was beaten out for the job by Tyrod Taylor, released for salary cap reasons, then re-signed by the Bills to be Taylor’s backup.
The best year of Cassel’s career came in 2008 when he was filling in for injured Patriots starter Tom Brady. Cassel threw for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns in 15 starts for the Patriots.
He was also a Pro Bowler in 2010 with Kansas City after tossing a career-best 27 touchdowns while throwing for 3,116 yards.
Cassel signed with the Vikings prior to the 2013 season and took the starting job from former Vikings first-round pick Christian Ponder. But Teddy Bridgewater replaced him when Cassel suffered the injury last season.
