New York Mets starting pitcher Johan Santana will undergo the knife for the second time in less than three years on Tuesday after re-tearing the anterior capsule of his left shoulder, the Associated Press reports.
The 34-year-old left-hander may have thrown his last pitch for the Mets. He will likely miss the entire 2013 season — which is the final year of his six-year, $137.5 million contract with New York ball club.
Santana missed the 2011 season following his first shoulder operation. He returned last season and threw the first no-hitter in Mets history on June 1 against St. Louis.
