Former Twins reliever Jared Burton has found a new home. The right-handed reliever has signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees.
Yankees MLB.com blogger Brian Hoch reports the deal includes an invitation to spring training, which will begin on Friday for Yankees pitchers and catchers.
Burton, 33, is 18-19 with a 3.44 ERA and 10 saves over eight big league seasons with the Twins and Reds.
Last season he was 3-5 with the Twins, with a 4.36 ERA and three saves in 68 appearances. In Burton’s 64 innings he allowed 58 hits and 34 runs (31 earned) while walking 25 and striking out 46.
The Twins declined Burton’s $3.6 million option in October, choosing to pay him a $200,000 buyout instead.
The move will send Burton to the American League East and he’s had some success against most of the teams in that division.

According to Hardball Talk, Burton could still be a solid middle reliever for the Yankees. He is also known to be a good clubhouse guy.

Burton’s best season in the majors came in 2012, when he posted a career-low 2.18 ERA in 62 innings.
