Forbes has put a value on the Minnesota Vikings and it’s one of the 50 highest in professional sports.
Per the report, the Vikings are worth $1.15 billion, tied for 49th among the 50 most valuable professional sports franchises on the planet. The Atlanta Braves and Dallas Mavericks are also worth $1.15 billion.
The top three on the list:
- Real Madrid: $3.26 billion
- Dallas Cowboys: $3.2 billion
- New York Yankees: $3.2 billion
According to the Business Journal, the Vikings were worth $756 million in 2011; the value of the franchise jumped when their $1 billion stadium was approved.
Of the 50 teams, 20 of them are from the National Football League, 12 from Major League Baseball, 10 from the National Basketball Association and one from the National Hockey League (Toronto Maple Leafs), CBS observed.
The Timberwolves, Wild and Twins did not make the list, although, as Business Journal points out, the Twins probably didn’t miss the top 50 by much with a recent valuation of just under $900 million.
Forbes says there are 62 sports franchises around the globe worth at least $1 billion.
