Former Vikings quarterback Jeff George in helping out his former team.
George, who played one season with the Vikings in 1999, is serving as a “guest coach” during Organized Team Activities.
KFAN’s A.J. Mansour writes that the goal is for George to serve as a mentor to quarterback Christian Ponder.
Ponder tells ESPN that it’s nice to have another guy that he can “bounce something off,” but he hasn’t talked to George a lot yet.
ESPN’s Kevin Seifert writes that teams often do favors for former players who are trying to become a coach.
George’s 1999 season with the Vikings was a memorable one. He replaced a struggling Randall Cunningham and led the Vikings to an 8-2 record over the final 10 games, and a trip to the playoffs. He threw for 2,800 yards and 23 touchdowns.
The Vikings lost in the divisional round to the eventual Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams.
