Ex-Minnesota Vikings safety Darren Sharper turned himself in to authorities Thursday after a warrant for his arrest was issued in New Orleans in connection with the rape of two women, CNN reports.
According to the report, Sharper turned himself in to LAPD detectives without incident Thursday evening.
On Thursday, arrest warrants were issued in New Orleans for Sharper and 26-year-old Eric Nunez. Both men are facing two counts of aggravated rape. Prosecutors allege both incidents took place at an apartment on Sept. 23, 2013.
According to CNN, if convicted, the two men could be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Last week, Sharper pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and five other drug charges in California. Those charges were filed in connection with incidents that took place in October of last year, and last month. He was released on $1 million bail with an order not to leave Los Angeles County. If Sharper is convicted in California he faces up to 30 years in prison.
Sharper has also been connected to similar crimes in Tempe, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. One authority in Tempe said they “anticipate filing charges very shortly and we are still waiting on a couple of results from the crime lab.”
In total, Sharper is suspected of raping eight women and committing sexual battery against another woman in Miami Beach, Florida, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The 38-year-old retired from the NFL in 2010 after playing eight seasons in Green Bay (1997-2004), four in Minnesota (2005-2008) and two in New Orleans (2009-2010).
