A pinch-hit home run in the World Series is the kind of thing that only happens in dreams, unless you’re Eduardo Nunez.
The former Twins infielder is in his second season with the Boston Red Sox and on Tuesday night he was called upon from the bench for a pinch-hitting opportunity in the bottom of the seventh inning with the Sox up 5-4 on the Dodgers.
Two pitches later: a rocket off the bat that cleared the Green Monster at Fenway Park to help Boston secure an 8-4 Game 1 win over the Dodgers.
“In the beginning I thought it was going to be a single, because the wall is so high and I know it was a low ball,” Nunez said, via ESPN. “When I see the ball is going, I was excited, because I didn’t expect the ball going [out].”
Nunez was an All-Star with the Twins in 2016 and was then traded to the Giants July that season for left-handed pitcher Adalberto Mejia. The Giants traded him to Boston midway through the 2017 season for a couple of prospects.

The other former Twin getting a lot of attention is Brian Dozier, who batted leadoff for the Dodgers in Game 1. He struck out looking in his first at-bat, popped out to left field in his second chance and then walked and scored a run before being pulled from the game.
Game 2 of the World Series is Wednesday night in Boston.
