Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop is expected to workout for the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, according to Judd Zulgad.
The former sixth-round pick was released by the Packers on Monday.
“This is definitely a motivating factor. For several reasons, moreso I think than anything in my entire career,” Bishop tells ESPNWisconsin.com’s Jason Wilde. “Just from the standpoint of actually being cut. You figure it’s going to happen to everybody eventually at some point in their career, but I felt like I was the type of player who can go out on their own time.
Bishop totaled 292 tackles and nine sacks in five seasons with the Packers. He missed the entire 2012 season with a torn hamstring.
Bishop could fit in well with the Vikings, perhaps even as a starting outside linebacker.
Zulgad writes that with Erin Henderson’s expected switch to middle linebacker, the outside job oppositive of pro bowl linebacker Chad Greenway is up for grabs. Veteran Marvin Mitchell and rookie Gerald Hodges are the current favorites for that starting job.
